    The Twentieth Century

it is done. my first paper is over! en3224: the twentieth century. the hardest lit module i've taken so far, and the one which has given me most trouble over.

the exam was alright though, better than i expected. i'm more worried about the essay, i hope i didn't butcher it. haha. section b was much much better than the test, and i think i did, and hope, that i fared better for it now than i did during the test. i was rather surprised when i opened the paper and was immediately able to identify 5 quotations which were familiar to me, from the various texts i've studied and known the best in this course.

so, i hope i'll do well on this exam. i need to, considering that i did rather badly for the test.

    @@@

i honestly hope that i am not falling ill.

    @@@

i shall use AP style from now on. At least, till my paper is over. The next paper is Thursday, Introduction to Media Writing. I hope to do my best in the paper. This module is my hope for a high grade.

I really need to pull up my CAP score this semester.

    @@@

all the best to all of you! take care!

    xiang's wedding part 1

today was my cousin's singapore leg of wedding. woke up early, didn't manage to sleep at all because of the "lovely" mosie bites i suffered from studying in school on friday. gah. i even had mosie bites on my neck and eyelid. grrrrrr.

anyway, so we went over to my cousin's house to wait for him to arrive with his bride. hung around, chit-chatted, watched tv.... i think my cousin arrived around 10.45am? around there. welcomed him, took photos, first time seeing the bride. wow! pretty! well-matched, i say. surprisingly, she's shorter than him too! haha~ ahem.

after everything (which wasn't very long), they left to sentosa. and my family and uncle and aunt went for lunch. dim sum! yummies! went home, was so tired i concussed on my bed for some zzzz, BUT my mum was talking so loudly i ended up spending more time wishing she would just shut up than i did sleeping. soon, i had to wake up and shower and get ready for the dinner.

at 4.40p.m., we left the house for sentosa. reached there, walked around, took some photos while waiting for the solemnization to start. the weather was fine when we arrived, wasn't so fine before the ceremony, became fine again a few minutes before the ceremony begin, and started drizzling when the ceremony begun. -_-" and it became heavier, and since we were sitting at the front row, we didn't have any shelter. the solemnization was done as quickly as possible, before we headed inside for the cocktail reception while my cousin and his bride finished signing the marriage certificate.

after some mingling and more photo-taking sessions, we headed up to the ballroom for the wedding dinner. started at 7.30p.m. (shall leave the unhappy topic of a certain occupant at our table for another entry). the food was good! much much MUCH better than the food-tasting i had at ritz carlton hotel. well, sentosa spa resort (something like that) seems pretty classy and pricey too, though i still love the ladies at ritz. er... out of topic. haha~

anyway, it was a 9-course dinner, weirdly enough. my distant cousin, kaiying, and i concluded that the dessert consisting of strawberry pudding and wedding cake equaled to 2 courses, so it was essentially a 10-course dinner. wahaha~ the dinner was really formal and quiet. kaiying was remarking to me that people had to whisper to one another! haha~ yah, so far, the wedding dinners i've been to in singapore seem to be a rather solemn affair. anyway, even the food was served to individuals, rather than the usual place in center of table and self-service kind. and i was full halfway through dinner! haha~

i LOVE the evening dress of the bride's! ah! so nice! ah! but i'm fat, so i can't wear it. haha~ too bad, ym. i should never get married. will be the ugliest-looking bride ever! hehe~

anyway, so dinner was quite funny at our table, despite it being rather solemn. kaiying and I kept whispering to each other about various observations we made. and i was telling her that my cousin had better warn his bride about how rowdy and vastly different malaysia wedding dinners are. not only will it be noisy, it wouldn't be as organized, nor as smooth-flowing (latecomers, DUH), nor as solemn. people will tease the newly-weds, make them smooch for eons, play various games, etc etc. it'll be oodles of fun, if one can take it. being the high-class, rich bride she is, and seeing how her family had organized this singapore wedding, i hope the way the malaysia wedding dinner goes won't upset them. her mum looks really strict and no-nonsense. the bride is really friendly though! all smiles, so pretty! my cousin is really lucky. haha~

oooh! and there was this gorgeous harp! and a harpist! ahh! and the harpist is so talented! she's real good! ahhhh!!!! such a pretty harp. i like harps, i think they're really special. and i think harpists are a unique breed of instrument players (brain suddenly forgotten the appropriate term)!

ooooooh! and and and, we had this really cute 'salt and pepper' shaker as thank you gifts! each person recieved a box. and salt and pepper shaker is designed such that it is a couple hugging each other. the pink one being the girl, the white being the guy. sooooo cute! really! i took piccies of it! shall upload next time. but oh! so cute!!! *plays with them now* must have cost a bomb.

we also took home the flowers from the dinner. since my cousin says we can grab them, we did. took a bowl (?) of flowers from the er stands lining the walkway, and one more for my aunt. haha~ damn heavy can. my arms wanted to break while i was carrying one of the bowls.

ok, im going to study! er, yah. haha~ first paper on monday, aieeee!

    hide and seek

This is my 3rd time typing this. I typed out this entry twice last night, only to lose both due to some technical difficulties. Argh!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you guys. My current favorite song of the moment. So depressingly beautiful.

Hide and Seek – Imogen Heap (so going to get her album when I go to UK!)

    Where are we?
what the hell is going on?
    the dust has only
    just begun to fall
    Crop circles in the carpet
    Sinking feeling

    Spin me round again
    and rub my eyes
    this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy

    Hide and seek
    Trains and sewing machines
    All those years
    They were here first

    oily marks appear on walls
    where pleasure moments hung before
    the takeover
    the sweeping insensitivity
    of this
    still life

    Hide and seek
    trains and sewing machines
    Blood and tears
    They were here first

    mm what d'ya say?
that you only meant well, well of course you did
this it's all for the best, of course it is
that it's just what we need, you decided this?
    what did you say?

Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
Mid sweet talk newspaper word cut outs
Speak no feeling no I don't believe you
    you don't care a bit

Here’s the dance which the ‘so you think you can dance’ top 6 finalists performed to. It’s a really sad and beautiful dance, choreographed by the talented Mia Micheals (sp).

My favorite part is when they start stamping their feet to the words, “Mm what d’ya say..”. My only gripe? If only the audience would just shut up during the dance itself. Gah.

    missing

i went shopping w tr on sunday, and i bought loads of stuff! bought a forever friends file and organizer for my lil cousin, a black top and green erm "vietnamese" (?) style pants from bugis village and cherry bloom's album.

cherry bloom is a taiwanese all girl rock band, and i was debating on whether i should buy their album or not. i have very erm selective taste in chinese music, i guess. but tr said it is only 7bucks, so yah. since i -still- couldn't find olinda's album anywhere (maybe i heard wrongly, or the info about her new album out was wrong), i decided to get cherry bloom's one. and surprisingly, it was good. ok, i like it. haha. somewhat similar, yet different, from f.i.r. hmmm... i don't make sense, i know.

    @@@

here's a special shoutout to my dear mimi! thanks a lot mimi for listening to me ranting last night! i realized we've been ranting to one another very often since er... may? june? haha~ thanks for always offering to by my "listening ear" and giving your two-cents worth of thoughts.

i realized i don't really have any close friends since i entered university. i wonder why... perhaps the environment doesn't allow the formation of such friendships. i don't have any phone buddies anymore, people i could call up and chat till the wee hours in the morning with, lamenting about random and sometimes insignificant stuff. the closest person who comes to that is mimi, my msn buddy. despite being in japan now, i'm really thankful that she still offers to listen to me no matter what. :)

still, i miss my phone buddies. funny how most of them are in NS now... yah, most of my closest friends are guys. i miss monkey, bballer and er... dancer? lol. i would call him botak, except er... not that nice eh? haha~ esp bballer and dancer, who will call me up just to ask how i'm getting on with life. and monkey sms-es or msn me sometimes, although things between us will never be the same again. sad how friendships can be lost at times.

i miss naddie, and yati, qammie, and lay ping, and idayu, and nisa! all my babes who were always there for me through the hard times. especially naddie and nisa! i can't wait for exams to be over so that i can meet up with them all!

    @@@

i'm going to rebond my hair tomorrow! whee~~~ shall complete my Nice Work while sitting there, fusing into the chair for 4 hours. haha~

6 days to exams. sigh. somehow, i feel as though the exams aren't coming, yet. at all. i'm in denial. gah. snap out of it, ym.

    a funny comment

i received back my press release assignment yesterday. my lecturer/tutor wrote a funny comment on it. this is what it says:

i wrote a sentence which read, "Women dressed in mini skirts will get discounts: a dollar off for every centimeter shorter than 25 centimeters."

her comment: "Well this is about as flagrantly sexist as an NUS event can get."

    hahaha~ she is so funny.

    @@@

i'm camping in central library again. been here every single day. i am falling sick... supposedly from the lack of sleep. ahaha~

i am staring at my midi piece. the more i listen to it, the more i feel that it sucks. and those that have heard it so far say it isn't good. but no matter what i do, it still isn't good. why? i am so going to fail the project. the deadline is tonight, 12midnight. i am on the verge of tears. i feel like giving up. i spent more than a week on this, and i was so happy when i completed it last night, but when i came to school today and listened to it again, and let others hear it, i keep getting negative comments about it. and the more i listen, the more i think it is just BAD.

and now i am writing like a primary school kid. what the hell is wrong with me?

i need therapy, now. retail therapy.

    change in size

i changed my font size cos apparently, someone's eyes were going blind just by reading my blog. nah, big enough for you? stop complaining liaoz hor.... stop being such a girl. :p and you still owe a tag! humph.

i actually rather like the tiny font... boo hoo. and now whenever i type an entry, the words are huge!!!! aaaaiiiiiiieeeee!

oh, and ysiew is sharing my blog account with me now. her new blog acct somehow refused to accept the html codings of her current blogskin, so i opened another blog for her under my account after staring at the new beta blogger template screen for about an hour and messing around with the html, to no avail. aiyayayaya. should have just done that in the first place. beh.

i am so nice i can't stand myself sometimes.

i'm just kidding. we all know how nasty i am.

oh, and a special shoutout to faith (yanrong)! assuming she even reads my blog. ahah~ thanks for the earrings and necklace! i like! whee~~~~

visit her blog here for cool jewelleries! lovely!

    normalcy?

i absolutely love this line from Private Lives: "I think very few people are completely normal really, deep down in their private lives." how true. i so have to watch Noel Coward's play when i go to uk. assuming that it is in production, of course. i hope so. heh~

oh, and the play is just uber funny. reading it may not seem so, but really, all you have to do is to imagine yourself saying those lines in that rich upper-class English manner, and imagine yourself acting as the characters, and viola! a funny, excellent play. bwahaha~

obviously, writing that 20th century essay has affected my sanity.

wait. do i even possess one to begin with? :p

    @@@

things seem much better. thinking about it, i guess if blaming things on me keeps things in-line, and keeps people together, perhaps it wouldn't be that bad after all.

2 more months. i hope i can keep myself together for 2 more months.

i hope my low spirits is a result of pms, and that it will go away soon.

    @@@

the goong ost is very er cute. i can't think of any other word to describe the songs inside. the bear song, the goong song, all the instrumental tracks are just... cute. or probably because of the images it brings to mind, especially the crystal flower song. when i heard it, i was like, "ahh! the bear bears!!!" if you watch the show, you know what i mean. those cute bears at the end of each episode. tee-hee.

i can't find olinda cho's album. i am getting quite unhappy with the local cd stores. they are full of overseas music, but almost non-existent on local music. like, hello? local music ain't all bad, alright? how about some pride in the local music scene?

i would greatly appreciate it if anyone could tell me where in singapore can i get olinda's album. in my humble opinion, i still think that she is the best singapore idol contestant.

i want another local band album but i can't remember the name of the band. that a capella group. erm. yah.

nothing like music to soothe the soul.

    unanswered

why do you keep doing this to me? why? have you any idea of the amount of pain you inflict on me, time and time again? this close, and you ruin it all. i don't know what to do anymore. i don't want to be caught in between.

i am so tired of keeping up my smile, when all i want to do is to curl up and cry. why can't i have a normal place for me?

    a funny conversation

oooh~ i finally reached the part in Veronica Mars (VM)where veronica and logan get together! whee~ haha~ now i know why yalan went ga-ga over them. they are really a match made in heaven. two of the most screwed-up people (well actually the show has a couple of screwed-up people), or as vm says, "train-wreck". ooohhh... all the angst! ahhh! *goes crazy*

and logan is sooooo sweet! oh... poor soul. all that planning for a romantic boat ride, and veronica doesnt turn-up cos of a discovery of what he did in the past. ooohhh.... sadness.

and i shall stop here before tr starts complaining about how i am turning into another yalan with my vm ramblings. haha~ now, if only yalan's brilliant brain and great figure came along with the ramblings, i will gladly turn into her. haha~ hey, i'll be scoring As for lit! *dreams on*

    @@@

speaking of angsty romance and all (my fav fictional couple has always been tinged with angst: battousai/kaoru from rurouni kenshin; buffy/angel from buffy the vampire slayer and now veronica/logan from veronica mars), here's a snippet of a convo me, siew and tingren had recently.

*we were showing clips of our dream husbands to one another from shows and all*

me: yick siew likes the knight-in-shining armour...
tr: the one who will protect her. I like the gentle sort..
me: *in my head thinking AND the ah beng looking ones*
me: and I like the torned and tormented soul
tr: so that you can play hero and save him
me: no... so that we can both be tortured and tormented together
    tr: that sounds so wrong

NB: siew basically spent the time laughing away, as usual.

oh, and for those wondering, mun wei likes the quiet, brooding kind. *hints to someone* :D

anyone else wants to admit their dream guy personas? haha~

    woe

dad pissed mum off big time. it's like, a playback of the cny events this year, ya know? the whole "you can't go back to ipoh to visit cos my family is more important" thing. like really, grow up. haven't you learnt anything at all?

i think it is unfair that we spend so much time with one side of the family, and so little with the other. especially since, if you ask me, i would say my mum's side is much more supportive (of me, at least), than my father's side is. my mum's side at least encourages me, helps me when i need it, and is genuinely interested in what's going on in my life. so, i feel sad whenever we have to neglect them because of my father's selfishness.

my father. one wonders why he married my mum sometimes. his disrespect for her family is so fucking obvious. seriously. how hard is it to set aside some time to just go down to ipoh, which is just 1 freaking hour drive away from Penang, to pay a visit to relatives for like, 2 days? (i wouldnt even consider it 2 days man, seeing as we arrive on the first and leave early the 2nd) 2 freaking days out of 8 days, how hard is that? but noooo.... we can't. why? because my cousin decided to organise this one day hike to some place in penane, and so, we ab-so-lute-ly have to go for that for family bonding! bite me.

not that i have anything against my cousin or the trip, i think it is a brilliant idea, really, but the problem is my FATHER. he is so fucking selfish, i feel disgusted. i mean, taking things for himself and making my life miserable is one thing, but hello! doing the same to your wife?! how incredibly selfish. i am simply amazed (note: sarcasm).

this goes on any further, and i have no idea what my family will end-up into. mum on one side, dad and bro on the other and me somewhere in the middle. woe to the daughter who is just too nice to not not give a damn.

    sprained

i sprained my right arm during training last night. happened at the beginning of training, when we were doing dou cuts. at that time, i shrugged it off as nothing serious. things went on as per normal.

at the end of training, when i was doing the 100 hayasuburis (cos my dou himo decided to "drop out" 5 minutes from end of training, -_-"), my right arm felt like it was dying by the 50th cut. at 100, it was dead. literally. couldn't move it. the most it could do was to shake.

today, i couldn't lift-up my arm withouht incurring pain. hip hip hooray.

should i be glad that last night was the last official training and i won't be missing any trainings due to this muscle strain? hmmm...

one thing i do know: i didn't want to fall-out despite the pain because i wanted to give my all during this last training. the next time i do get to train, is most likely during the kendo camp. let's hope i won't be killing myself then. heh~

    @@@

learnt a lil trick from dax when i jigeiko-ed with him. jigeiko-ing with him is always tiring, but you always come up learning something new. a new trick, or something else. anyway, one can always expects kakaregeiko whenever he is concerned. hah~

he said i did a few good men cuts. big ones. hmmm.... i've always thought i did horrid men cuts. sensei once said i should practise more small men cos it is faster.
